30th August 2007
Last week AgForce made its submission to the Senate inquiry in relation to legislation to enable polls to occur in Queensland for communities to have their say on council amalgamations. The submission highlights the importance of the legislation to enable communities to have a voice in their future. AgForce fully supports proposed changes that will enable councils to run polls without penalties. Members of the Senate Inquiry will be in Emerald tomorrow, August 31, for a public hearing on the Commonwealth Electoral Amendment (Democratic Plebiscites) Bill 2007. They will also be in Noosa on August 30 and Cairns on September 3. The legislation is likely to be passed when Parliament its next week.
